Each exploration starts with a book.

This is the base premise I began with on this project. Start with a book, dig into it’s themes, and use those to direct my new projects. What ideas does the text spark? What types of things exist in those worlds? How could I express the thoughts that run through my mind?

I make things - I create. I also believe strongly in the philosophy that making shapes our understanding of a topic. Not just of the physical aspect of the making itself, but of the concepts, facts, and history around the topic that the making involves. Every choice we make reflects our internal understanding of the subject we’re tackling.

This site is organized in 2 ways. The “writings” section is similar to a traditional blog. It includes long form writing about my thought process as I go through each aspect of all my projects. It’s in chronological order and you’ll find some social media incorporated into the posts where relevant.

The second organizational aspect are the explorations. Right now, as I start this new journey, I only have 1 exploration. Each exploration starts with a book and then contains a collection of projects that I’ve either tackled or planned for the project. Each project includes my goals for that project, any learning I incorporated into the project, and the project itself.

In addition to having a more structured form around my making practice, I also wanted to find an outlet for more structured writing. A place where I could delve into the theoretical and ground my thoughts in a mix of practice and exploration. My pace on this project will be sporadic - sometimes in bursts and sometimes with long stretches in between. If you’d like to follow along, I recommend either following the blog or my Instagram, linked in the footer.

I hope you find this exploration useful in your own way - whether it provides entertainment, a rabbit hole for your own mind to delve into, or inspiration for your own practice.
